Bristol Farms: Wine Deals in Newport

Napa Valley is the Wine Region of the Month at Bristol Farms. Check out these great deals on some California vino.

Voss Sauvignon Blanc – Reg $15.99 Gazette Special $13.99

Displays classic varietal aromas, flavor and texture. Aromas of lemon peel, grapefruit and pineapple combine with a hint of spice and mineral, leading to a delightful combination of intense and exotic fruit flavors across the palate. The wine shows a lovely fullness in the palate from the skin contact before pressing and the lingering finish is bright and crisp.

Erna Schein Petite Sirah – Reg $19.99 Gazette Special $16.99

Les Behrens has crafted a delicious and actually surprisingly approachable version of the dense and inky petite sirah grape. From hillside vineyards in St. Helena, this juicy, slightly rustic offering shows how pretty this typically clunky and awkward varietal can be. Dense black fruits, blueberry, acacia and sandalwood with a lengthy, integrated, softly tannic finish. 90 points Robert Parker.

Twenty Rows Cabernet Sauvignon – Reg $19.99 Gazette Special $16.99

Intense, deeply colored wine of concentrated aromas and flavors. Bright black cherries lead the charge, followed by dusty cocoa and roasting coffee beans. Dense texture and a fine sense of balance enhance the pleasing aromatics of blackberry, currants, vanilla bean and dark chocolate. Approachable and immediately delicious.

Whitehall Lane Merlot – Reg $29.99 Gazette Special $25.99

The grapes came from five separate Merlot vineyards, two cabernet sauvignon vineyards and one syrah vineyard. This blend results in a cornucopia of flavor nuances. The wine was gently pressed and aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for approximately 17 months. The cabernet sauvignon adds structure and intense fruit aromas and flavors. Syrah also enhances the aromas while also giving the wine added complexity. This ripe and rich merlot has lovely aromas and flavors of black cherry leaning to ripe plum and toasty oak. It gains pleasing mid-palate structure and added complexity and balance through to the lengthy finish.

Big Vine Chardonnay – Reg $14.99 Gazette Special $11.99

Carneros is sublime when it comes to growing chardonnay in its soil. The resulting natural acidity and flavor profile creates a very pure and balanced wine. By avoiding malolactic fermentation and the use of any new oak (as well as stainless steel fermentation), this is a crisp and clean wine with bright green apple, leechy nut, some citrus notes, and a lot of pure chardonnay fruit.

Branham Estate The Jazz – Reg $24.99 Gazette Special $21.99

The perfect ending to the evening, as your palate enjoys the quintessential flavors of the Napa Valley. The quartet of zinfandel (35%), petite sirah (25%), syrah (20%), and cabernet sauvignon (20%) boasts harmonious fruit on the nose, segues to refined melodies of black plum, dark berries, and coffee notes on the palate, and brings down the house with a purposeful symmetry of tannins and acidity at the finish. Brava brava!
